Playable solitaire

TriPeaks

TriPeaks deals 28 cards into three overlapping pyramid “peaks” above a shared base row, with the rest of the deck in the stock. A card is playable when it is fully uncovered. Play exposed peak cards onto the waste when they are exactly one rank away from the waste top — suits ignored. Ace and King wrap: Ace may play on King and King on Ace.

When no peak card fits, deal the next stock card onto the waste (becoming the new target) and continue. There are no redeals. Clear all peak cards to win. SolitaireVP’s stage layout matches classic Microsoft-style TriPeaks geometry (3 + 6 + 9 + 10 slots). Undo is available; Auto finish is not.

How to play TriPeaks

  1. Only uncovered peak cards may be played.
  2. Move one onto the waste if its rank is ±1 from the waste top (Ace ↔ King allowed).
  3. If nothing plays, draw from the stock to the waste.
  4. Newly uncovered peak cards become live as their covering cards leave.
  5. Clear all 28 peak cards before the stock runs out of useful deals.
  6. Use Undo to test chains; there is no Auto finish.

Setup

TriPeaks solitaire setup diagram

  • Peaks: 28 cards in four rows (3 tips, then 6, 9, and a 10-card base) with overlapping coverage; base cards start face-up.
  • Waste: one starter card dealt face-up as the first target.
  • Stock: remaining 23 cards.
  • No redeals.

Rules

  • Play by adjacent rank only; suits irrelevant.
  • Ace–King wrap is allowed (unlike SolitaireVP Golf).
  • Stock: one pass, maxRedeals = 0.
  • Win by clearing all peak cards.

Strategy

TriPeaks rewards reading which peak card a chain will uncover next.

  • Chain greedily when unlocks snowball across adjacent peaks.
  • Don’t draw if an exposed card still continues the run.
  • Use wrap consciously — Ace/King bridges turn “dead” ends into continuations.
  • Prefer plays that free two covered cards when you have a choice.
  • Watch shared cards between peaks; clearing the valley often opens two tips’ worth of options.
  • Undo a stock deal if it broke a longer peak sequence you could have taken first.

Short prose: TriPeaks is Golf’s mountain cousin with friendlier wrapping and a three-summit board. Think in streaks: every card you play from the peaks is progress; every stock card is a cost.

FAQ

Does Ace wrap with King?

Yes. On SolitaireVP TriPeaks, Ace and King are adjacent.

How is this different from Golf?

TriPeaks uses a peak layout (not seven columns), allows Ace–King wrap, and focuses on uncovering overlapping cards. Golf uses columns, no wrap, and a dedicated foundation pile.

Can I recycle the stock?

No — one pass only.

Do suits matter?

No — rank adjacency only.

Is Auto finish available?

No.

Trivia

TriPeaks was popularized by Microsoft’s Entertainment Pack and remains a staple of digital casual solitaire. The three-mountain silhouette is instantly recognizable, and the scoring culture around long consecutive streaks made it as much an arcade chase as a clearing puzzle.

Compared with Pyramid’s sum-to-thirteen removals, TriPeaks keeps a single moving “current rank” on the waste — a rhythm that feels like improvising a melody up and down the rank scale, including the Ace–King octave jump.
